Struck the same year the first woman legally voted in the U.S., and the first transcontinental train arrived in New York City, this 1870 two-cent piece is one of just 861,250 coins issued. As the nation recovered from the ravages of the Civil War, the public stopped hoarding coinage, so coins stayed in circulation. That meant more two-cent pieces simply weren't needed. Today, because of its unusual denomination and classic style, the 2¢ piece makes an interesting addition to any collection.
