Enhance your collection with harder-to-find “D” and “S” mint mark Buffalo nickels from the last three years of the series. Like most U.S. coins, production of Buffalo nickels was much lower at the Denver and San Francisco branch mints than at the main Philadelphia Mint. You’ll receive five coins in all: 1936-D, 1936-S, 1937-D, 1937-S, plus the 1938-D from the last year of the series, when Buffalo nickels were struck only in Denver.
The San Francisco Mint was established in 1854 to convert the precious output of the California gold rush into coinage, and the second San Francisco facility was one of very few downtown structures to survive the 1906 earthquake and fire. Also, in 1906, the Denver Mint was opened to serve the fast-growing population of the Great Plains and Rocky Mountain regions. These 1936-1938 D&S Buffalo nickels are lower-mintage issues from the coin series considered to have the most uniquely American design. Get all five issues in attractive Fine condition and SAVE off individual coin prices.
