Designed by John Reich, and struck in pure copper, Classic Head half cents of 1809-1836 feature a portrait of Liberty with curled hair falling to her shoulder. Her hair is secured by a band inscribed liberty. She is surrounded by 13 stars representing the original colonies, and the date is found below. The reverse bears a continuous wreath encircling the denomination, with United States of America inscribed around the border.
