This bronze Indian Head cent is sure to be prized by any collector! The Mint created this variety when Chief Coiner Archibald L. Snowden complained the "closed" 3 in the dates could be misread as an 8. Obverse depicts Liberty in a Native American headdress. Bears the final reverse design of the series, featuring oak wreath and shield with a strong N in ONE CENT. In 1873, Congress adopted the gold standard - an act critics called the "Crime of `73". That same year, the U.S. Mint became a bureau of the Treasury Department. Recall an important year in coinage history with this classic Indian Head cent!
