The life of Pride and Prejudice author Jane Austen is celebrated with this extraordinary Uncirculated £10 Polymer Note unveiled on the 200th anniversary of her death in 2017. Issued by the Bank of England, it is the first note with raised dots to help the sight impaired identify the denomination.
Austen, who also penned Sense and Sensibility and Emma, was buried in Winchester Cathedral. A “window image” of the cathedral is one of the security features. On the note’s front, the cathedral is shown in gold foil; on the back, it’s silver. A hologram above the window shows the queen’s coronation crown. Below the window, a hologram of an open book alternates with the words ten pounds. The quill changes color from purple to orange.
Queen Elizabeth II is profiled on the note’s front, Austen on the back. Quoted below her portrait are the words of Miss Bingley, a character from Pride and Prejudice: “i declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading!” Godmersham Park, believed to be the inspiration for many of her novels, is image at left. Above it, an image shows Austen at her 12-sided writing table. This Polymer Note makes a great addition to a world currency collection or as a gift for a Jane Austen fan. Order today!
