After nearly 200 years, a new U.S. Treasury seal was introduced – and these 1969-dated $1 Federal Reserve Notes were the first notes to feature that new seal! The original seal, which was first used by the newly-formed Department of the Treasury in 1789, bore the Latin legend thesaur. amer. septent. sigil., which translates to “The Seal of the Treasury of North America.” It appeared on U.S. paper money from 1862 until 1969, when it was replaced by the new, simplified seal with the English inscription the department of the treasury. In a nod to the original seal, the date 1789 was added to the bottom. Now you can add this important – and historic – first to your collection, still in Choice Crisp Uncirculated condition, today!
