Issued in 1957, this very detailed Uncirculated 100 Kip Note is a terrific opportunity for collectors. Measuring over 6 1/2" wide and 4 1/4" high, the front features King Sisavang Vong who united three ancient kingdoms into one, reigning from 1904-1959. On top of two royal chalices before him is the country’s Constitution. Laos declared itself a constitutional monarchy under the French Union in 1953. To the right are four protective Nafa serpents.
The back features the king’s 16th-century Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Vientiane, today’s capital. A Laotian woman holds a bowl of roses. Printed by the Banque de France, the watermark is the three-headed elephant Airavata-Erawan. Popular with collectors of world currencies, this large note is an affordable and must-have addition.
