This stunning, early 20th-century commemorative in 90% gold was issued for the 1915 Panama Pacific Exposition that celebrated the opening of the Panama Canal. A low-mintage issue struck at the San Francisco Mint, only 6,749 were distributed. Features beautiful designs by Charles Barber and George T. Morgan. Obverse depicts Columbia with caduceus seated on a hiopocampus signifying use of the canal. Reverse features a bald eagle with raised wings. One fortunate collector will enjoy this beautiful Gem Uncirculated example with an estimated survival rate of just 1,500 pieces.
