By special purchase, you can add numismatic and historical prominence to your collection with an “overdate” Capped Bust dime struck in 89.24% silver nearly 2 centuries ago! These coins first received an 1822 date, then a 4 was punched over the second 2 to create an 1824 date, and small portions of the 2 are still visible. Such “overdates” are popular varieties from early America when coinage needs and supplies did not always match. The date on the coins offered here also features a "Flat Top 1" (a small number of “Pointed Top 1” coins were also struck).
The obverse shows Liberty wearing a cloth cap, while the reverse bears an eagle on a branch clutching arrows. This Capped Bust design was seen on half dollars, quarters, dimes and half dimes of the early 19th century. Featured here for the first time, this elusive early issue will be a highlight of your collection!
