Add prestige and history to your collection with this Capped Bust half dollar still nicely detailed – even after more than 175 years! This treasured early American coin was struck in 89.24% fine silver on man-powered presses at the Philadelphia Mint. At that time, the mint was the only one in existence, and during the 1790s, Philadelphia was our nation's capital city.

Working dies for the Capped Bust halves with lettered edges were prepared individually, with the date, stars and lettering punched by hand. The obverse depicts Liberty wearing a cap, the reverse bears a naturalistic eagle and the value: 50 C. The edge features the inscription fifty cents or half a dollar.

Due to the shortage of silver in our young nation, Capped Bust half dollars were once America's largest circulating coin and "workhorses" of early 19th-century commerce. These historic silver halves have been graded by our experts. Supplies are limited – so don't wait to get yours.
