1995 $1 Federal Reserve Note, Web Press

1995 $1 Federal Reserve Note, Web Press

Every paper money collection should include a short-lived “Web Note” – and you can now own one from the final series in Choice Crisp Uncirculated condition! From 1992-1995, hoping to reduce the cost of making paper money, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing produced about 1% of all Series 1988A, 1993 and 1995 $1 notes with an experimental web-fed press. Costing nearly $45 million, the huge 120-foot-long Hamilton Web-Fed Press printed both sides in one pass, while standard sheet-fed presses printed the faces and backs of notes separately and required more labor.

However, the web press did not faithfully reproduce all the fine engraving details, the experimental project overran its budget, and the web press was taken out of service in July 1995. Unlike standard notes, scarcer Web Notes have no plate-position letter and number, and no plate-serial numbers, on the face. And plate numbers are seen above the “E” in ONE on the back instead of below it. See for yourself – get a Choice Crisp Uncirculated “Web Note” while we have them in stock! .
