A.D. 283-284 Numerian Antoninianus

A.D. 283-284 Numerian Bronze Antoninianus

Numerian, youngest son of Carus, received the title "Caesar" shortly after his father became emperor. In the spring of A.D. 283 Numerian accompanied Carus to Persia and became co-emperor when his father suddenly died. During this campaign, Numerian caught a serious eye disease which left him partially blind and forced him to ride in a litter as the legions returned home. This made it easy for the corrupt Praetorian Prefect to murder him.
