Severus II as Caesar Follis

A.D. 305-306 Severus II as Caesar Bronze-Silvered Follis

These scarce 1,700-year-old bronze-silvered Follis of Severus II are about the size of a half dollar. Issued from A.D. 305-306, they were struck during his reign as Caesar. When first minted centuries ago, they displayed a silver wash. Some of that original silvering is still present and the designs are still sharp today. Severus II became Caesar when the huge Roman Empire was ruled by two Augusti and two Caesars. During this period, civil war ravaged the empire as rival factions strove for power. Although Severus II eventually rose to Augustus, he ruled less than a year. As a result, his portrait coins – whether as Caesar or Augustus – are very difficult to acquire. If you’re missing the scarce coin of this emperor, order now! Once these are gone, we don’t know when we’ll be able to locate them again.
