5¢ Fractional Currency Note

Due to widespread hoarding of coins during the Civil War era, Congress authorized the printing of fractional currency notes (with values less than a dollar) from 1862-1876. This historic 5¢ note is from the 1864-1869 Third Issue of fractional currency. The face of the note bears an oval portrait of Spencer M. Clark, first superintendent of the National Currency Bureau (now the Bureau of Engraving and Printing). The back of the note is green. Get this authentic Civil War-era souvenir today.
