1935A Complete $1 Silver Certificate Variety Set (3 notes), Very Good-Crisp Uncirculated

During World War II, the government tried to extend the life of paper money. So in 1944, the Bureau of Engraving & Printing issued a small number of 1935A $1 Silver Certificates as test notes. Some were on regular paper money stock overprinted with a red “R.” Others with a red “S” were on special experimental paper designed to be more durable. And to this pair, we’ve added a regular Series 1935A Silver Certificate, making a complete set.

A very small quantity of test notes (less than 1% of all Series 1935A Silver Certificates) were printed, and all were released into circulation. Although the government never announced the experiment, the public noticed the unusual red letters, and pulled notes from circulation, making test results inconclusive. Few 1935A “R” & “S” notes were ever issued, and survivors are scarce. Now, over 65 years later, you can own a complete set of WWII-Era Notes: two scarce test issues in Very Good condition and a Crisp Uncirculated regular issue, plus SAVE off single prices.
