1935 Mercury Dime

The 90% silver Mercury dimes of 1916-1945 were part of a major re-design of silver coins. The dime, quarter, and half dollar all received new, unrelated, and highly artistic designs in 1916. It was a big change from the almost identical Liberty Head or Barber designs found on all three coins since 1892. Sculptor A. A. Weinman created impressive designs for both the dime and half dollar, while fellow sculptor Hermon A. MacNeil accomplished a beautiful design for the quarter.
