Designed by James B. Longacre, the Indian Head cent is considered by many to be the most beautiful bronze U.S. coin. And, it’s the first all- American coin, created in 1859, more than 50 years before Fraser’s Buffalo, this coin featured Liberty in an Indian headdress, and celebrates our rich heritage.

- Reverse of coin depicts a wreath and a shield
- Struck every year of issue at the Philadelphia Mint except for the last two years, 1908-09
- This design was replaced by the Lincoln cent in 1909
