This 90% silver half dollar was issued for the 250th anniversary of the founding of New Rochelle in 1688 by French Huguenots. The title to the land that was purchased by the Huguenots from John Pell provided that the purchasers and their heirs were to pay "one fat calf on every four-and-twentieth day of June, yearly and for every year forever, if demanded." The obverse depicts a calf and a figure of John Pell. The reverse shows a fleur-de-lis, which was adopted from the seal of the city. Mintage: 15,266. Add this unique coin to your collection today!
