Description:
The Isabella Quarter was not only one of the first U.S. commemoratives coins, but it was the first commemorative quarter. It celebrates the role of women in industry, and it was issued in 1893 in conjunction with the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Designed by Charles E. Barber, the obverse has a crowned bust of Queen Isabella of Spain. A kneeling female on the reverse with distaff and spindle is emblematic of women's industry. Low mintage of 24,214.
