|
Description: |
August 24, 1775 NH Colonial 3 Pounds – Serial #1477 (Crisp Uncirculated), #1462 (Choice Crisp Uncirculated)
Bold and vivid, exceptional condition and historically significant, these handsome New Hampshire Colonials, serial numbers 1462 and 1477, make an outstanding addition to any collection. In fact no. 1462 is so nice, that it is a plate in Eric P. Newman’s newest book, The Early Paper Money of America, 5th edition. As two of just 1,333 notes printed in August 1775, the notes recall Paul Revere’s legendary midnight ride in April, Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold’s capture of Fort Ticonderoga in May and the Battle of Bunker Hill in June – all milestones on America’s path to independence!
Once owned by collector F.C.C. Boyd and later John J. Ford, Jr., this pair has been locked away in collections for over a century, but is available now! Denominated at three pounds, they were worth about 10 Spanish dollars when issued. Plus, each uniface note was hand-signed by E. Thompson and Nicholas Gilman (signer of the U.S. Constitution) and was redeemable on 12/20/1777. Even after more than 230 years, the red ink used on the number and Gilman’s signature is bright. These are genuine Revolutionary War issues, perhaps printed to pay for arms, and supplies. Sure to be the crowning jewel in your paper money or early U.S. coin collection, certificate of authenticity included order yours right away!
