Introduced in 2007, the exciting and historic Presidential dollar series is depicting U.S. presidents from George Washington to recent office holders. Four new issues are released each year in approximately 3-month intervals. A common reverse features the Statue of Liberty, and denomination displayed as "$1."
These are the first regular-issue U.S. dollars in over 200 years with edge lettering. Presidential dollars of 2007-2008 feature edge inscriptions of the mint mark, year of issue, and mottoes e pluribus unum and in god we trust. Beginning in 2009, the motto in god we trust appears on the obverse, and 13 stars for the original colonies were added to the edge. These popular Presidential dollar coins are struck in the same golden alloy as Sacagawea/Native American dollars.
