America’s National Parks and Historic Sites Honored on Commemorative U.S. Quarters

From 2010-2021, the U.S. Mint will issue commemorative quarters featuring America's national parks and other sites with natural or historical significance. The 11-year program is authorized by the "America's Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008."

A national park or historic site in each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the five U.S. Territories will be honored on a quarter-dollar coin. The 56 different designs will be minted in about ten-week intervals, at the rate of five per year from 2010-2020 and one final issue in 2021. The quarters will be struck in the order the locations were established as national parks or historic sites.

The commemorative designs will appear on the reverse, while the obverse will continue to feature a portrait of George Washington. Quarters struck for commercial use will bear a "P" or "D" for the Philadelphia Mint or Denver Mint. Proof coins in both clad and 90% silver versions will bear the "S" mint mark of San Francisco.

The Secretary of the Treasury has the discretion - any time before the end of the ninth year of the program - to authorize a second cycle of national park and historic site designs. Large 3" diameter coins, containing 5 ounces of 99.9% silver, will also be struck with the commemorative designs.
