Always in great demand, the short-lived Type 1 Standing Liberty quarter is an exciting addition to any collection! We’re pleased to have enough coins to feature them in our Showcase once again.
The 90% silver Standing Liberty quarter debuted in 1916 with praise for its artistry. But as WWI raged in Europe, the image of Liberty with an exposed breast was soon deemed inappropriate. She was “covered up” with chain mail armor in early 1917 to better represent a nation ready to defend itself, creating the Type 2 design used from then until the end of the series in 1930.
You can now own the short-lived 1917 Type 1 in a choice of three desirable circulated grades. And one fortunate collector can own this prized variety in Gem Uncirculated condition with the sought-after “Full Head” designation (full details on Liberty’s hair and face).
