Queen Victoria’s grandson, George V, reigned from 1910-1936. He steadfastly led Britain through WWI, the Sinn Fein Rebellion for home rule of Ireland and the worldwide depression of 1929 to 1931. His reign also produced these 91.7% pure silver coins.
These silver 1⁄4 Rupees are known as Regal Coinage because they were issued under the authority of the British crown. As you may recall, India was under British rule from about 1857 until 1947, and today is a member of the British Commonwealth. Just 4,023,000 of these coins were struck in Bombay in 1928. And now, after more than 80 years, there’s no telling how many still survive in Uncirculated condition. An exceptional silver coin at a very affordable price.
