The 1893-S Liberty Head $20 gold pieces (or double eagles) were struck in the late 19th century at the San Francisco Mint. That western facility was established shortly after the California gold rush to serve the coinage needs of the fast-growing West Coast population. These historic coins bear James B. Longacre`s classic depiction of Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed liberty, with an impressive eagle and shield on the reverse.
