The 1876-CC Liberty Seated half dollar was struck in 90% silver at the frontier U.S. Mint in Carson City, Nevada. This short-lived facility produced U.S. coins only from 1870 to 1893, and was established to utilize the great quantity of silver ore, as well as a certain amount of gold ore, extracted from the fabulous nearby Comstock Lode. Mintages at the small Carson City Mint were limited, and coins with "CC" mint marks are in great demand among collectors today.
