The 1857 Liberty Seated half dollar was struck in 90% silver at the main U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. This facility was the birthplace of America`s coinage, with production of U.S. coins dating back to 1793 when George Washington was serving as first president of the new republic. The Liberty Seated design holds a prominent position in U.S. coin history, as it was used on no less than 5 different silver denominations (half dimes, dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollars).
