First struck 125 years ago in 1892, Barber coinage replaced the long-running Liberty Seated designs on the dime, quarter and half dollar. Each series featured Charles Barber’s classic depiction of Liberty on the obverse – and marked the end of an era!
In 1916, after more than two decades, Barber’s designs were replaced as part of a movement to put more artistic designs on America’s circulatingcoins. This marked the final time the same motif was featured on multiple denominations! Now’s your chance to enjoy six 90% silver coins of transition:
- Barber & Mercury dimes – Adolph A. Weinman’s new depiction of Liberty featuring her in a winged cap was mistaken as the god Mercury
- Barber & Standing Liberty quarters – The acclaimed Standing Liberty design by Hermon A. MacNeil shows her standing at the gateway to America, holding a shield and olive branch
- Barber & Liberty Walking half dollars – Also designed by Weinman, this rendition of Liberty striding toward the dawn of a new day is considered one of America’s most beautiful silver coinage designs
