These 1901-O Morgan dollars struck over a century ago at the New Orleans Mint, offer plenty of historical interest. But this issue was also once considered a major Morgan rarity! That is, until 1901-O original mint bags were discovered in the vaults of the U.S. Treasury during the 1960s. When the coins were dispersed to the public after decades in storage, this New Orleans dollar was finally affordable to most collectors. But well-struck pieces proved elusive...
That’s why I’m delighted with our buyers’ recent purchase of 1901-O Morgan dollars handpicked from century-old original mint bags. While attractively priced for these desirable grades, the coins are especially well struck for this issue with handsome original luster.
These 1901-O Morgans are prized legacies of the only mint to serve both the United States and the Confederacy – as the facility was seized by southern forces in 1861. Production of U.S. coins resumed after the war from 1879 until 1909 when the presses were shut down for good. These 1901-O Morgan dollars, graded by our experts and certified by PCGS, will add heirloom quality to your collection!
