Now own the very first and last Buffalo nickels in Extra Fine condition – featuring one of the most recognizable U.S. coin designs in history! Sculptor James Earle Fraser’s famous Buffalonickel, featuring a bison and Indian chief, is highly acclaimed for its artistry, authentic detail and a uniquely American theme. When introduced in 1913, the buffalo stood on a raised mound inscribed with five cents (Type 1), but the words quickly wore away. So midway through 1913, the denomination was placed in a protective recessed area (Type 2). The Type 2 was used through the end of the series in 1938 – when Buffalo nickels were struck only at Denver.

Over a century after its issue, the 1913 Type 1 Buffalo nickel is in great demand for its display of the full original design and as the first coin of the series! The Type 2, well represented by the 1938-D, is from the last year of the series when only “D” Mint issues were produced! This “first and last” set is very affordable and attractive – don’t wait to get yours.
