This colorful 2009 One Dinar Note depicts one of the world’s most notorious leaders! In a 1969 coup, Muammar Gaddafi seized control of Libya – located on the Mediterranean Sea to the west of Egypt, and the 4th largest African country. Gaddafi’s reign, for over 40 years, was tainted by human rights abuses including torture and execution of thousands of Libyan citizens. His support for radical groups created fear he would become the world’s most dangerous terrorist. In February 2011, a rebel uprising supported by NATO began in Libya. On October 20, 2011, Gaddafi was caught in hiding, and killed by an unknown assassin.
The back of this colorful note, now obsolete and replaced in 2013 by a new One Dinar Note, features the beautiful Mawlai Muhammad mosque in Libya’s capital city of Tripoli. Add this historic Uncirculated Gaddafi note to your collection today!
