Struck from 1883 to 1912, the Liberty Head nickel is a classic collectible from a fascinating era in U.S. history. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, much of America was changing from a rural agricultural to an urban industrial economy. The first real skyscraper opened at 50 Broadway in New York City, rising 13 stories high. The L.M. Singer Company sold its first electric sewing machine, and Liberty Head nickels dropped into the first coin-operated telephone in Hartford, Connecticut.
